Instructions to the Designer
1. Unless otherwise specified loads are based on the allowable calculated load according to the 2005 National Design Specification (NDS). Products required by code to be tested have been or are in the process of being tested under the supervision of an independent test laboratory to verify calculated capacity. Allowable loads for these products are determined by the lesser of the calculated load, the tested load with required safety factor applied, or the tested 1/8" deflection of the carrying member with respect to the carried member.
2. Allowable loads given in the table are as follows:
3. Wood members must be evaluated for shear, tension, and other applicable structural capacities to insure the wood member can carry the listed metal connector load.
2. Allowable loads given in the table are as follows:
- "Down Floor", or "(100)" are normal loads with no increase for the various load durations as specified by the code at 100%.
- "Snow" and "(115)" are roof snow loads with 115% of normal load increase where allowed by code.
- "Roof" and "(125)" are roof construction and service loads with a 125% of normal load increase where allowed by code.
- "Uplift", "Wind", and "(160)" are wind or earthquake loads with a 160% of normal load increase where allowed by code.
- Note: Load duration increases apply only if tested deflection and ultimate loads with required saftey factors meet or exceed allowable duration increases. Do not exceed loads listed in the catalog tables.
3. Wood members must be evaluated for shear, tension, and other applicable structural capacities to insure the wood member can carry the listed metal connector load.
